About the artist:

Xiang Shengmo (項聖謨, 1597–1658) was a distinguished painter and calligrapher of the Ming dynasty, recognized for his landscape paintings and refined brushwork. Born into a family of scholars and artists in Xiushui (now Jiaxing, Zhejiang province), he drew inspiration from his grand-uncle, the renowned painter Xiang Yuanbian. Xiang Shengmo's work is praised for its meticulous detail, elegant composition, and nuanced use of ink and color, embodying the literati ideals of his era.
